Our Approach

HOW WE LISTEN, THINK, AND DESIGN

ALIGNMENT | Understand what we value and why the work feels the way it does.

Rooted in Cassadaga, New York, our work balances modern and traditional design in response to place, shaped by imagination and long-term thinking. We guide custom residential, renovation, adaptive reuse, and civic projects from the first conversation through construction. Serving clients throughout Chautauqua County and Western New York, we believe architecture begins with listening. Before drawings, before decisions, our role is to bring clarity to the process while leaving room for ideas to emerge and take shape.

THE PROCESS | A guided path from idea to built form.

At Chris Cooke Architecture, every project starts with a conversation about your vision, your needs, and the way you want to live or work within the space. From there, we guide you through a process that is transparent and collaborative. Even after completion, we continue to serve as a resource, because thoughtful architecture is built through lasting relationships.

Step 1: Discovery & Consultation

We begin with an initial design conversation to understand your goals, site, timeline, and overall vision. This meeting helps determine project fit, scope, and priorities before moving forward.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
  • Introductory phone conversation or scheduled meeting
  • High-level discussion of goals, site, and timing
  • Confirmation that the project aligns with our scope

Step 2: Concept & Design Development

Through sketches, spatial studies, and 3D modeling, ideas take form. Early visualizations allow you to explore scale, flow, and relationship to the site as the design direction emerges.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
  • Concept drawings and/or digital models
  • Design conversations and feedback opportunities
  • Refinement of overall layout and form

Step 3: Refinement & Collaboration

With the concept established, details are refined through dialogue and material exploration. Structural systems, finishes, and performance considerations come into focus.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
  • Material and detail discussions
  • Coordination with structural and technical consultants
  • Clear communication around design decisions

Step 4: Documentation &
Construction Administration

We prepare construction documents, coordinate consultants, and support permitting and pricing. During construction, we remain engaged to help ensure the design intent is carried through with care.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
  • Drawings suitable for pricing, permits, and construction
  • Ongoing coordination with the builder
  • Site visits and responsive communication as needed

Step 5: Completion & Beyond

As construction concludes, we assist with final walkthroughs and transition into the space. We remain available as a resource as needs evolve.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
  • Final review and close-out
  • Client appreciation and celebration of the work
  • Continued availability after completion

“The finished product has received praise from many in the neighborhood who say ‘it fits right in and seems like it has always been there.’ On the inside we are delighted with the flow of new rooms and the adaptations that were needed to mix new construction with 100+years old original cottage construction. He also secured a highly reputable builder to take on our project. I would, without reservation, recommend Chris Cooke for your architectural needs.”
